Make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to DWP
How to make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Applies to England, Scotland and Wales
Read about the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and how to make a request.
Check our previous releases to see if we’ve already answered your question.
We often get enquiries about the following topics. The DWP FOI team cannot deal with these. Check the guidance if you need to:
- apply for a National Insurance number
- find out how and when your benefits are paid
- apply for a benefit or payment
- tell us about a change in your circumstances (such as moving home)
- challenge a benefit decision (also known as asking for mandatory reconsideration)
- appeal a benefit decision (after you get a mandatory reconsideration decision)
- complain about the service you’ve received
Contact the office you usually deal with if you have a question about your benefit claim or your State Pension.
Request information DWP holds about you
You have the right to get a copy of the information that is held about you. This is sometimes called a ‘right of access’ request.
Request the personal information DWP holds about you.
Read the DWP personal information charter to find out how and why DWP uses your personal information and your rights and responsibilities.
