Unknown insurers: approval of insurers providing cover for the civil liability, bunkers or wreck removal conventions
The UK criteria - annexes A, B and C - that unknown insurers need to evidence to get approval.
Unknown insurers
If your insurer is not listed in the drop down field in section 10 of the application form, it may be because the Department for Transport has not yet checked that this insurer meets the UK’s criteria to provide cover for the following conventions;
- BCLC - Bunker Convention 2001
- CLC - Civil Liability Convention 1992 (Tankers)
- PAL - Athens Protocol 2002 and Regulation (EC) 392/2009
- NWRC - Nairobi Wreck Removal Convention 2007
You may still apply for certificates from the MCA, however before we can issue these certificates your insurer will need to provide us with evidence that they fulfil our criteria.
Evidence should be submitted via email to [email protected].
The approval process can take upwards of 10 working days, depending upon the quality of evidence received and where the insurer is based, so please plan your applications accordingly. If we do not receive the necessary evidence, your application may be rejected.
