A request for information is often the first step of the recovery process, and will usually involve confirming a debtor’s whereabouts, financial status or their assets in another country.
A request for information should be made using the R012.
Sending a request
- Prepare the Request for information form R012 in accordance with the EU guidelines.

- Send the R012 to the requested country by post.
- BF the case for two months.
Information provided
- Arrange for translation of the response (if necessary); do not ask the other country to translate it for you.

Information not provided
If the requested country is unable to provide you with the information, they will send you an R014 or equivalent explaining why the information can’t be provided.
