Welsh is an official language in the United Kingdom. The Welsh Language Act 1993provides that Welsh speakers may speak that language in legal proceedings. The Act alsoimposes a duty on public bodies to present statutory forms in Welsh.

In addition the Magistrates' Court (Welsh Forms) Rules 1986 provide for the use of Welshlanguage forms in summary proceedings. If a debtor requests them at any stage in theproceedings, you should request a Welsh language version of the form by memo from

The following forms are available in Welsh

  • SP24W Summons
  • SP26BW Copy minute of Order for service
  • SP35W Distress warrant.

However, even when you use a Welsh version of any form, always complete any certificateof service in English.
