General information

As part of the team at the Embassy you will play an important role in the continued partnership between the UK and Austria.

All applicants must have a high level of spoken and written English (unless stated otherwise) and for most positions an additional fluency in German will be required.

All invited candidates can expect a competency-based interview conducted in English by a panel of embassy staff. During the interview, candidates will be asked about their work experience, career history and skills. Interviews may also include a short practical exercise testing specific skills required for each role.

Internships

The embassy occasionally offers internships which are advertised under current job opportunities below. This is for students and recent graduates holding local residence permit only.

In addition, the Department for Business and Trade at the British Embassy Vienna offers long-term internships (16-28 hours per month) to active students of an Austrian university. Send your resume and a cover letter to DBT[email protected], if you are interested in commercial matters.

Students at UK universities who are British nationals and are considering a career in the Diplomatic Service can apply to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in London for a placement under the FCDO placement scheme or a variety of other schemes run by other government departments. Further information is available from the FCDO website.

The FCDO in London also offers a number of work placements to talented individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds, details of which are also available via the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office website.
