Details

There is increasing interest in the application of behavioural science to public health. However, this can be difficult with local authority public health commissioners and service providers facing a number of barriers and challenges to applying evidence from behavioural science.

In this study, a prototype commissioning support tool was designed to address some of these barriers by directing attention to the need to consider behavioural science evidence, providing support on when and how to use evidence within the commissioning cycle, supporting the production of commissioning specification documents, and giving guidance to those bidding to provide services.

This report documents the process of improving and adapting the tool based on findings from interviews with individuals involved with its application, and includes recommendations for further increasing the acceptability and usability of the tool.
