Details

This prison service order (PSO) is a guide for prisons on the organisation and purpose of democratic therapeutic communities (DTCs) within prisons. A DTC is an immersive, group-based approach to exploring and addressing offending behaviours in prisoners.

This PSO covers:

  • which prisons offer DTCs
  • an explanation of DTCs and their purpose
  • referring prisoners to, or transferring them from, a prison with a DTC
  • resourcing and staffing DTCs
  • developing DTCs in prisons
  • managing performance and quality

It also includes an example of a DTC weekly timetable and links to more information.

This is a current PSO. It came into effect on 6 December 2004.
