Details

This prison service order (PSO) contains information on infections which are naturally transmitted from animals to humans (zoonotic infections) and how to reduce the risks of transmission.

It gives guidance on:

  • completing a risk assessment, including identifying who is most at risk and how harmful different potential infections would be to humans
  • actions to take to reduce the risk of exposure to infections from animals
  • necessary training for staff and prisoners

It also includes a list potential infections, including symptoms, suggested prevention measures and available treatments.

This is a current PSO. It came into effect on 1 June 2000.
