You must use this guidance to make a fire prevention plan if you’re storing combustible wastes at sites where you have a permit.

You can use the template on this page to prepare your plan. You do not have to use it, but if you do it will help you produce a plan that follows this guidance.

We have also provided some case study examples of alternative measures operators have proposed in their fire prevention plans.

  1. We have revised and updated the fire prevention plans guidance and template and provided some new case study examples of alternative measures proposed by operators in their fire prevention plans.

  2. A template for creating a fire prevention plan has been added to the page. We are carrying out a temporary trial of the template and are seeking feedback on it.

  3. Page updated to advise that this guide should be read in conjunction with the Fire prevention plan consultation: summary of consultation responses and decisions, and Appendix 1: review of guidance and test results. Reading these documents in conjunction with the guidance will explain what an operator needs to demonstrate to meet the relevant objectives and also the level of evidence and justification that we need to support any proposals involving alternative measures.

  4. Text added for clarity - 'This guidance also doesn’t apply to the storage of coal, materials, or wastes that are liquids.'

  5. First published.
