This report was created by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), the Gazelle Colleges Group and the 157 Group and is based on 12 months of research, including interviews, workshops and surveys with colleges and employers around the country. The report explains the need for both colleges and employers to build on current relationships to better equip both sides to deal with rising skills shortages. It highlights the benefits of building strong links between colleges and employers, identifies the characteristics of successful collaborations, the challenges identified and how to overcome them.

The report aims to provide a starting point for more in-depth discussion. It includes a number of discussion topics and questions which can be used in future debates and will provide the basis for future work being led by The Education and Training Foundation.
