The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council (IIAC) reviewed the evidence on this subject. It decided not to recommend any changes to the list of prescribed diseases for which people can claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB).

The council will review this decision when more and better studies on risks by job title, or cohort studies of patients with silicosis, become available.
