Details

The results of the oral health survey of services for older dependent people show:

  • oral care was not recognised as an important issue in some ‘Care in your home services’

  • lack of access to suitable, timely and responsive treatment services is a common problem in adult residential care, nursing homes and hospices

  • the availability of suitably trained and equipped personnel in hospitals with in-patient facilities for people aged 65 and older, was variable and is of concern

Local authorities and NHS area teams may find this information useful when commissioning and designing services for older people. It could also be useful to those involved in ensuring quality care for hospital patients and residents of care homes.
