The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) provides financial incentives to install renewable heating in place of fossil fuels. Reforms to the scheme introduced in 2018 focused on:
- long-term decarbonisation
- promoting technologies with a credible role to play in the transition
- better value for money
This research evaluates the impact of the reforms on the achievement of scheme objectives, and in particular the role the reformed RHI played in the deployment of biomethane for injection to the grid. The evidence is based on:
- RHI administrative data
- applicant surveys
- interviews
- cost-effectiveness analysis
These findings are part of a wider evaluation of the RHI. Future reports will assess whether the reforms delivered against their objectives.
