Details

Since Year 8 of the Taking Part survey (2012/13), a longitudinal component has been included in the survey, whereby the same individuals are re-interviewed annually.

The aim of the longitudinal component is to enable greater understanding of the extent and cause of changes over time in participation in and engagement with cultural and sporting activities at the individual level, and as well as pathways in and out of participation and engagement.

Taking Part is the key evidence source for DCMS and was commissioned primarily to provide a single evidence source on participation in culture and sport. The survey is currently used to measure and inform departmental indicators, inform the development and impact of DCMS policy, and to understand the drivers and barriers of participation in cultural and sporting activities.
