This release provides information on further education activity funded by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) for adult benefit claimants in England. It uses data from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Department for Work and Pensions, and HM Revenue & Customs.

It provides new data for the first 6 months of the academic year 2012 to 2013 and updates figures for 2009 to 2012 presented in the previous edition of the official statistics series ‘Further education for benefit claimants: June 2013’.

It provides statistics on:

  • benefit spells with training
  • overall learners who were on benefits at the start of training
  • levels of qualification (all and highest) studied
  • type of provision
