The council considered whether and under what circumstances they might be able to extend the list of prescribed diseases for which people can claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (IIDB) to include work related back and neck pain.

On reviewing the evidence, the council were unable to make any recommendations to add neck and back pain to the list of prescribed diseases.

However, the paper does highlight several preventative measures to combat back and neck pain.

Injuries to the back and neck, occurring as a result of an identifiable accident, continue to be covered under the accident provisions of the IIDB scheme.
