Directions under the Land Registration Act 2002

Under section 100(4) of the Land Registration Act 2002, the Chief Land Registrar may prepare and publish such directions as he or she considers necessary or desirable for facilitating the conduct of the business of registration under the Act.

The Chief Land Registrar has prepared and published the attached Directions.

  1. Direction 1 has been amended as a result of change of addresses for the delivery of applications by business customers.

  2. Direction 3 has been withdrawn as we no longer accept applications for first registration comprising of entirely certified copy deeds and documents.

  3. Direction 2 has been amended as a result of the withdrawal of form ID4.

  4. Suspension of Direction 7 as a result of essential maintenance work on all HM Land Registry electronic services from 16:00 hours on Friday 25 August 2023 until 06:30 hours on Tuesday 29 August 2023.

  5. Direction 2 has been amended as a result of the withdrawal of practice guide 67A and revision of practice guide 67.

  6. Notice 8 has been added giving details of forms of restriction and evidence of compliance relating to overseas entities.

  7. Direction 4 has been amended as a result of the creation of a new email address for the electronic delivery of objections.

  8. Direction 7 has been amended to define working day to reflect that it has the same meaning as in rule 217 of the Land Registration Rules, to remove the reference to customer teams and to align the wording with that stated on GOV.UK in relation to the services.

  9. The Chief Land Registrar may publish directions for facilitating registration. Suspension of direction 7 published under section 100(4) of the Land Registration Act 2002.

  10. Direction 4 has been amended to confirm that both electronic addresses provided for the Swansea Office may be used.

  11. Direction 2 has been amended as a result of a temporary change of practice and the introduction of 3 new forms as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
