Details

These documents set out the outcomes of the trans-Pennine feasibility study.

The leaflet provides a simple overview of this study and its outcomes. The report provides more detail of our decisions following the study.

The study was carried out to identify opportunities and understand investment solutions for improving transport connectivity between Manchester and Sheffield. Current links between Manchester and Sheffield compare unfavourably with those between other cities separated by a similar distance. Parts of the trans-Pennine route, particularly the A628, perform poorly both in terms of delays and accidents. This has negative effects on the local community and the Peak District National Park.

The results of the study informed our ‘Road investment strategy’ (RIS) and particularly the ‘RIS investment plan’.
